Qualcomm has a patent filing of theirs published today which points toward a possible foldable touchscreen tablet. This device will merge a trio of touchscreen displays into a single device, where its interface will change depending on the context. When fully folded, it will function just like a standard cellphone, and when unfolded to its full glory, it will have a variety of roles, depending on the position of each individual display. While this is does not necessarily indicate an actual device, a finished product is still possible.

We know that the Roomba line of vacuum cleaners wowed the world when they were first unveiled, as mom could happily spend some time in front of the TV while the floor was being vacuumed. Well, Samsung wants in on the game as well with their line of Navibot vacuum cleaners, coming in Samsung Navibot SR8845 and Samsung Navibot SR8855 models. These automated vacuum cleaners will be able to go about the task of cleaning up junk and dirt from your floor, although the more advanced Samsung Navibot SR8855 comes with touch sensitive buttons as well as an on board scheduler. Virtual Guards is another feature that creates an infrared virtual fence to help it prioritize cleaning zones. A single battery charge will allow it to run for 90 minutes.

CTIA Wireless which will be happening this coming 23rd to 25th March ought to see Samsung unveil their S Life idea – we still have no clue as to what S Life is all about, but according to Samsung, it is “as much a feeling as it is an incredible achievement” and it ought to bring “enrichment through technology and simplicity through innovation.” Hmmm, do you think this is some sort of new user interface or hardware? Regardless, March 23 is not too far away, so being patient ought to do the trick here.

If you happen to live in the UK and want a speedy Internet connection, you might be pleased with news that initial trials by Virgin Media managed to deliver 50MB broadband to the Berkshire village of Woolhampton thanks to the use of telegraph poles. Homes that are hooked up to Virgin Media’s fibre optic network directly will be able to increase broadband speeds by over ten-fold compared to BT’s copper network. There is no word on a national rollout by Virgin Media yet, but you can be assured that when it is available, many more people will jump aboard the torrent bandwagon.

With OpenGL 4.0, non-Windows platforms will finally have access to all the features of DirectX 11 (DX11) hardware. Tessellation is now available (it’s the star feature of DX11) for game programmers, but there’s also an integration of general purpose computing that is better than in DirectX 11.

General purpose computing lets developer use the massive computing capabilities of GPUs for tasks that are not graphic (physics is a good example). DX11 has Direct Compute, which is an API for performing such non-graphic tasks, but Direct compute is really aimed at game developers. OpenCL, the computing equivalent of OpenGL, has a less specific approach and is seen as being more flexible by many. Finally, today’s advances in OpenGL 4.0 will eventually find its way to OpenGL ES, the mobile version. More info at opengl.org
