Remember the Samsung Gem that was listed in the Best Buy buyers guide a few days back? It was originally listed as “coming soon”, giving us some hope that we’d be able to check out the phone soon. Now Best Buy has issued a little statement, claiming that it made a mistake and that there is no official launch date for the Samsung Gem just yet. Nothing else about the phone is mentioned, so it looks like we’ll have to go back to waiting for another leak.

We must really be inching closer to getting our mittens on Verizon’s upcoming Samsung Fascinate Android-powered phone. After numerous leaks and hints related to this phone, the phone has now been pictured smiling side by side with the Droid X. The Fascinate is rumored to be released around September 8-10th, so we’re looking forward for the good news which should be just around the corner.

Credit card accessories for the iPhone are getting more focus nowadays, especially since Jack Dorsey’s Square iPhone payment system was introduced a while back. Now the folks over at Intuit and Mophie have come up with the Complete Credit Card Solution for iPhone, which is a $179 package that includes Mophie’s phone case that accepts credit cards, and version 3.0 of Intuit’s GoPayment app. Users will be able to quickly register for the service and have everything up and running within 15 minutes. A single account is good enough to cover 50 users, so you can even equip a modest sales team with such devices, and Intuit’s website provides plenty of information on the transactions that take place, allowing you to link it up with Intuit’s QuickBooks suite. You’ll need to also fork out $12.95 per month to use the service, not to mention per-transaction fees between $0.30 and $0.34 and also take into account the charges from 1.7 percent to 3.7 percent of the transaction. The downside of this case is that it currently only supports the iPhone 3G/3GS, though an iPhone 4 version is already in the works. It’s currently available in Apple retail stores, and will be hitting Apple’s online store pretty soon too.

Anybody who has watched Back to the Future II will probably remember the self-lacing Nike shoes. It doesn’t look like we’ll be getting such shoes anytime soon, but at least we’re moving in the right direction. That being said, someone did come up with self-lacing sneakers a while back, but there was a rather ugly looking motor at the back.

ViewSonic has confirmed that it will be unveiling a number of new products at the IFA trade show in Berlin this September. Products will include an affordable 3D camcorder, a 3D digital camera, a portable 3D TV, and the previously reported dual-boot tablet device. According to reports, the camcorder will be capable of capturing 720p HD video, offers a glasses-free 3D display, and will set you back $300. A 3D camera, 3D digital photo frame, and handheld 3D TV will apparently also be on display during the show. The company is also reported to offer its Android-powered ViewPad 7-inch tablet, and also a Intel-powered 10-inch tablet that can boot either Android or Windows. There wasn’t any mention of when these devices will be hitting the market, but more details should be available from the IFA trade show.

At $79.99 on contract after a $50 mail-in rebate, the Vivaz won’t break the bank. The bad news is that this phone isn’t exactly the latest model on the block anymore as it was launched by Sony Ericsson some time back, and it will only be arriving at AT&T come September 5th. It does offer some useful specifications though, such as:

Intel and Nokia have announced that they will be developing a joint research center in the University of Oulu, dubbed the Intel and Nokia Joint Innovation Center. The purpose of this is to create software for 3D and virtual reality experiences that will be used on mobile devices. The software itself will be developed by about 24 engineers using the open-source MeeGo operating system. The vision is to have 3D and virtual reality software running on a broad range of mobile devices in the future, which will obviously include smartphones and tablets. We’ll have to sit back and see what kind of magic that Nokia and Intel and come up with together, but we are looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labor.
