Everyone is getting excited over the new 100GB and 128GB Bluray discs that were just recently announced. The only problem is that they will not be compatible with the current Bluray players and recorders that are currently on the market. Since Sharp is putting out the discs, it only makes sense that they will follow up with the machines that can use them. They have announced two new Bluray recorders that will be fully compatible with the new BDXL format and will support 3D Blurays as well.
With all the MP3 Players and other music playing devices out there it can be difficult to figure out exactly the right way to hear your music. Many speakers sound great but aren’t very portable while many portable speakers just don’t sound that great. The Wowee One Portable Speaker is here to help though. The speaker is about the size of an iPhone and rests on any hard flat surface, which it uses to bounce sound off of and create a natural sub woofer. Microchips that see action in F1 cars could be adapted to assist commanders of armored vehicles to inform medics which part has been affected, alongside the kind of injuries that might have happened. This would make it easier to know right from the start the extent of damage which occurs after an improvised explosive device (IED) is triggered so that the next practical step of action can be taken. It will take around a year before the technology is ready to see action on the ground.

Microsoft is now just about software, as they are also into hardware with a new battery technology known as InstaLoad being in the works. InstaLoad will target those who are easily flustered by the process of inserting power cells correctly into various electronic devices including digital cameras, tape recorders and TV remotes. Basically, InstaLoad technology “allows users to easily install a battery without regard to positive and negativity polarity,” which is a good thing for the absent minded. Guess the battery diagrams that we’re so used to seeing could very well be phased out if this catches on. Currently, Microsoft plans to license the technology to third-party gadget manufacturers, where they claim InstaLoad can easily be swapped in for conventional battery contacts. It is currently compatible with CR123, AA, AAA, C and D batteries, with Duracell already endorsing the system.

Here’s a pretty cool concept design that would appeal to photographers who are out in the hot sun taking photos every day. It’s a Solar Camera Strap that is capable of harvesting solar energy to keep your camera juiced. Considering the camera will be hanging around your neck most of the time, it does seem like a pretty smart place to fit a solar panel. Now we just have to wait for them to turn this into a reality.

Apple’s iPhone has certainly been a game changer ever since its first iteration was rolled out, and the fruity company is not going to rest on its laurels that easily. In fact, Apple is currently working on a new Multi-Haptics technology of their own, and if the team has shown the same dedication as with their multi-touch interface which took years to seemingly perfect, then the gadget world can definitely look forward to the final result. This technology was described in a patent application to be known as “Multi Touch with Multi Haptics”, which was filed by Apple in April last year. The whole idea behind this is to spread an array of haptic actuators around the touch panel and device housing, where a database of haptic response profiles can be matched to different multi-touch gestures performed on the display. Will we see Multi-Haptic technology hit the market in the next iPhone or iPad?

BenQ has entered the LED-backlit LCD TV market by releasing the 42-inch XT4242. Measuring 4cm thick, this LED-backlit LCD TV provides a Full HD resolution and a 120MHz video technology. The BenQ XT4242 also consumes less power than its competitor thanks to the LED-backlight technology. What’s more, the BenQ XT4242 provides four HDMI-in ports (two on the back and two on the side), a single USB port, one VGA port, audio in/SPDIF out ports and A/V connectors. It has a built-in ambient light sensor, which adjusts the screen’s brightness automatically according to the amount of ambient light in its surroundings. The BenQ XT4242 is priced at $1,355.
